Intro to the Bible

Class Notes

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Psalm 119:105

1) How people think of the Bible

____________________________________________________________________________________________

Antiquated and irrelevant                                                                      Every Word comes from God’s mouth

2) What is the Bible For?

All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the person of God may be proficient, equipped for every good work. (1Ti 3:16-17)

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. (James 1:22-25)

“You search the scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life, and it is they that testify on my behalf. Yet you refuse to come to me to have life.” (John 5:39-40)
